What is Mecka?
Mecka is a US-based startup that collects real-world human motion data to train humanoid and other robots. The company pays people to record themselves performing everyday tasks, using body sensors and smartphones.
How the data is collected
Motion data gathered during tasks such as making coffee or repairing a car is turned into a large dataset that robots can learn from. Mecka analyzes this data and offers it to robot developers for their training processes.
The funding round
Sequoia Capital led the $60 million Series B round. NVIDIA, Microsoft's venture fund M12, Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung, Kindred Ventures, Framework Ventures and Neo also participated. Angel investors included DoorDash founder Tony Xu, former ServiceNow and Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman, and former Tesla Optimus lead Milan Kovac.
The company's goal
Founded in 2024 by Josh Gao, Mogen Cheng, Jason Chong and Duy Nguyen, Mecka aims to bring the Scale AI model — providing data for large language models — into robotics. The company had previously raised funding at a valuation of about $500 million last September.
