Scope of the deal
IonQ has agreed to acquire cybersecurity firm Elisity. The transaction is all-stock and could be worth up to $1.3bn. Up to $150mn of that amount is contingent on Elisity hitting certain targets.
Why cybersecurity?
IonQ wants to position its security arm against AI-aided attacks and, one day, threats from quantum machines. The company plans to combine its quantum computing expertise with security products.
About the company
IonQ is a Maryland-based quantum computing company. The deal was announced on Monday. Details about Elisity's founding and operations are not included in the source material.
