First remarks after the Classiq deal
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan spoke publicly for the first time since the company acquired quantum software startup Classiq. According to Tan, the deal will turn Intel into a "full-stack, revenue-generating" quantum computing company, meaning Intel aims to cover not just chips but also software and services in quantum.
CPUs in the AI spotlight
On Intel's earnings call, Tan highlighted the power-efficiency advantages of CPUs over GPUs for AI computing. The argument rests on the idea that AI workloads can run on processors as well as accelerators.
A $200 billion market forecast
Tan projected that demand stemming from the agentic AI market could grow the total addressable market for Intel's CPUs to $200 billion over five years, reflecting the company's ambition to grow its CPU business in the AI era.
Why it matters
Intel has been under pressure from a memory shortage and a weaker PC chip outlook. The quantum and CPU messaging signals the company is looking to carve out its own position in the AI race.
