What changed?
A new amendment to Turkey's Electric Scooter Regulation, published in the Official Gazette and now in force, significantly toughens the penalties applied to rental operators.
Fines and sanctions
- Companies that violate the rules can face administrative fines of up to 170,000 TL per vehicle.
- Depending on the severity of the violation, operators can have their activities suspended for up to six months.
Scope
The regulation targets rental operators such as BinBin and Martı. Individual e-scooter users are not covered by these measures.
Why it matters
E-scooter rentals are a common form of transport, especially in large cities. The new sanctions may push operators to invest more in fleet management and compliance.
