Media verification for everyone

Google announced a new website that lets anyone verify whether an image, video or audio clip was generated using AI. The site uses Google's SynthID technology to look for embedded digital markers in media.

What is SynthID?

SynthID is a technology that adds an invisible watermark to AI-generated content. This mark cannot be seen by the eye but can be detected with special tools, making it possible to tell whether a piece of content is AI-generated.

Why it matters

The spread of AI-generated fake images and audio is increasing the risk of disinformation. Google's new site aims to let ordinary users quickly check such content. The company is opening the tool to everyone to make verification more widespread.
