What's happening?
According to Android Authority, Google is silently linking a user's phone number to every account signed in on an Android device. If more than one Google account is used on the same phone, the number is associated with all of them.
Why it matters
A phone number is a strong key for identity verification and for tying accounts together. Quietly attaching numbers to accounts makes it easier to determine that different accounts belong to the same person. That can have unexpected consequences for ad targeting, account recovery and authentication flows.
From the user's side
The report says the process happens without a prominent notification. Silent changes like this make it harder for users to track which piece of their information is shared with which account.
What we know so far
The source available to us is only the headline; no official statement from Google is included. So the scope of the linking, which Android versions are affected, and whether it can be reversed remain unclear.
