AI anxiety in the crypto community

Ethereum researcher Justin Drake said AI's mathematical breakthroughs could threaten blockchain security. Drake advised crypto holders to move assets to fresh addresses whose public keys remain hidden and urged the industry to begin planning for "bunker mode."

Buterin: Could be as serious as quantum

Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin wrote that people should not panic but should take AI-accelerated math risks seriously. According to Buterin, AI could eventually become a bigger threat than quantum computers; even hashes could theoretically be broken.

How real is the threat?

Millions of Bitcoin sit in addresses whose public keys are visible on the blockchain. Yet many experts argue that AI companies' claims of a mathematical revolution lack sufficient evidence. Valerio Capraro of the University of Milan said it is unknown whether the proofs are correct, and the Association for Human Mathematics called for skepticism toward OpenAI's claims.

Real attacks came through a different route

So far, AI-assisted crypto wallet attacks have exploited years-old firmware bugs rather than brute-forcing encryption mathematically. Buterin warned that holders should be careful when migrating wallets, admitting he has lost more money in botched migrations than in all hacks combined.
