Confirmation before autofill
Google is testing biometric verification for passwords saved in Chrome on Android. The goal is to require an extra confirmation from the user before a saved password is autofilled.
How it works
- When Chrome wants to autofill a saved password on a login page, the biometric check kicks in.
- Approval can use a fingerprint, face recognition or another verification method available on the device.
Why it matters
Having saved passwords filled in directly, even when the phone is unlocked, poses a risk if the device falls into someone else's hands. Biometric approval adds an extra security layer to that step.
The feature is currently in testing; it is not yet known when Google will roll it out broadly.
