Chrome tabs open up to ChatGPT
OpenAI has updated ChatGPT's Google Chrome extension. With the extension installed, ChatGPT can now see the tabs you have open in the browser.
How it works
When a user tags Chrome in ChatGPT's web or desktop app, ChatGPT can view the open tabs. In a demo video shared by OpenAI, a user asks ChatGPT to compare three tabs showing sofas they are considering.
What changes
OpenAI describes the step as bringing computer use to anyone who uses Chrome. The goal is to make answers more useful and get things done on the user's behalf.
Context
The company's ChatGPT Atlas browser is gone; this move carries the browser-side capabilities forward through the Chrome extension.
