What happened?
CERN and French AI company Mistral signed a statement of intent on 15 October. The two organisations plan to build a "Large Physics Model" for collider physics.
What will it do?
CERN describes the model as the first foundation model for collider physics. It will be trained on simulated Large Hadron Collider data and will help reconstruct and identify particles in experiments.
Open questions
No budget or timeline was shared in the announcement. The statement of intent does not yet amount to a binding project plan.
