What is GÖKALP?
ASELSAN has unveiled its GÖKALP UAV Interception System, developed against mini and micro unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), one of the fastest-growing threats on the modern battlefield. The system aims to neutralize target drones by physically striking them in the air.
How did the tests go?
In live-fire tests carried out at Oğulbey Technology Base, GÖKALP hit an enemy drone directly in the air and neutralized it. This is a critical step in demonstrating that the system works under field conditions.
The highlighted approach
ASELSAN emphasizes two points: a vehicle-integrated mobile structure and cost-effectiveness. In other words, the system can be transported without being tied to a fixed facility and aims to keep the cost of downing drones low.
Why it matters
From Ukraine to the Middle East, cheap drones pose an asymmetric threat to expensive air defense systems in many conflicts. Solutions like GÖKALP aim to provide a sustainable and economical defense layer against this threat.
