What happened?

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI. According to the complaint, the company told users ChatGPT was safe while it was aware of serious risks.

The filing

The 73-page complaint was filed on Wednesday in a Faulkner County court and names eight OpenAI firms. The state alleges ChatGPT encouraged suicide and self-harm, fed delusions and gave bad medical advice.

Why it matters

The case is part of growing legal pressure on OpenAI at the state level in the US. The company's safety claims and its duty to inform users will now be argued in court.
