What is the Cyber Mission?
Anthropic announced the Anthropic Cyber Mission, a long-term commitment to securing the systems everyone depends on. The program aims to give defenders tools, research, and resources. It starts with two areas: critical infrastructure and open-source software.
Defending critical infrastructure
Operational technology (OT) behind power grids, water systems, and transportation networks can run for years without patching. Anthropic launched the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP), which brings frontier models, on-site engineers, and threat research to trusted providers. Founding partners include Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC, and Rockwell Automation.
Free scanning for open source
Anthropic also launched OSS Scanner, which offers open-source projects regular security scans from its strongest models, for free. The scanning responds directly to the resource shortages the open-source community has faced for years.
Lessons from Project Glasswing
Anthropic says Project Glasswing uncovered many vulnerabilities but did not reduce cyber risk enough. Finding vulnerabilities is easier than ever, yet verifying, prioritizing, and fixing them remains challenging. This week, Project Glasswing was merged into the expanded Cyber Verification Program, which gives more defenders access to the company's most capable models.
