What happened
Anthropic has acquired Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech company working on treatments for two rare forms of muscular dystrophy. The deal was announced in a blog post, with financial terms left undisclosed.
Mithril founder Cody Tranbarger has joined Anthropic as part of the acquisition.
Into drug discovery
With the move, Anthropic is moving beyond building AI models and starting to run its own drug discovery programmes. The company had previously said its Claude models showed early progress in drug development work.
Why it matters
A one-person startup being acquired by a major AI company shows how AI is increasingly shaping biotech and pharmaceutical research. The size of the deal and the scope of the drug programmes remain unclear.
