AMD shows Verano at OCP

AMD has unveiled its next-gen EPYC Verano server CPU for the first time at the OCP event. Zen 6-based EPYC parts already exist in the form of the Venice "9006" chips, while Verano is one of several configurations planned through 2026-2027, alongside Venice-X and Venice-HF.

Built for agentic AI

Verano is tailored for agentic AI workloads and adopts a few approaches AMD is using for the first time. The CPU pairs Zen 6 cores with LPDDR5X memory and scales up to 192 cores.

Why it matters

On the server side, memory type and core density are decisive for always-on AI agent workloads. AMD's shift to LPDDR5X can be read as an attempt to strike a different balance from the traditional DDR approach.
