What happened?
A total of 8,547 solar and wind energy systems across Europe were found to be exposed to the internet. Some of these systems reportedly had remote control interfaces that could be accessed.
Turkey also on the list
In Turkey, 454 systems were found to be similarly exposed. This suggests that part of the country's renewable energy infrastructure may be unprotected against cyberattacks.
Why it matters
Power plants are considered critical infrastructure. Remotely accessible control interfaces increase the risk of unauthorized intervention, outages, or sabotage. Experts stress that such systems should not be directly exposed to the internet and should be protected with strong authentication.
