A separate identity layer for agents
1Password introduced 1Password for Agents, a platform that lets personal AI agents sign in to accounts on a user's behalf. According to the Toronto-based company, agents never see the user's password at any point in the process.
First to plug in
1Password said agents from Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceXSI are among the first to connect to the platform, indicating the company is opening its solution to the agent infrastructure of major AI providers.
What the agents do
Per the announcement, agents book holidays, pay recurring bills and prepare expense records. The platform targets everyday tasks that require agents to reach real accounts.
Why it matters
As AI agents begin opening accounts and making transactions, handing them passwords creates a serious security risk. 1Password's approach aims to reduce that risk by keeping credentials in a layer the agent cannot access.
